Pakistani Court Rejects CIA Contractors Diplomatic Immunity
Pakistani court rejects CIA Contractors Diplomatic Immunity
Pakistani court ruling on Monday refused to say diplomatic immunity is owned by a CIA contractor who was arrested on charges of murder, according to the court.
Lahore High Court’s decision will likely prolong the crisis of relations between the United States and Pakistan over the fate of the contractor Raymond Davis, who was convicted in double murder case, and complicate efforts to obtain his freedom.
“The case is already in the trial … will decide about immunity,” said Chief Justice Chaudhry Ejaz in a court in the eastern city.
Davis, 36, shot two people to death in Lahore Pakistan on 27 January. He claimed to act in self-defense and the United States says he has diplomatic immunity and should be repatriated.
Pakistan argues that the court must decide.
The High Court has considered whether he has immunity as a criminal court for murder is planned to be run on Wednesday. When you get a penalty, Davis could face the death penalty.
The case has shaken relations between the U.S. and Pakistan, an important partner in the U.S. campaign against Taliban fighters in Afghanistan
